Flotsam and Jetsam | La Union, PH

Home is where the waves are! Join the good vibes brought by Flotsam & Jetsam, an artist beach hostel in La Union’s surf town – Urbiztondo, San Juan. One of the most hyped place to stay and party.

We booked our room 3 months before to secure the reservation; the hostel is well-known in La Union and as it is summer time, we’re expecting that it will be fully booked anytime soon on the date that we plan.

Sea Suite is a nautically inspired room furnished with a queen-size bed, a compact living room and a private bathroom. It costs P3,200.00 per night with free breakfast (buffet but basic: bread, boiled egg, cereals, fruits, coffee and milk). Strictly check-in time is 2:00PM; check-out time is 12:00NN.

During daytime, expect to feel warm since the weather is too hot and the room is huge; it would take time to cool the spacious area.

At night, expect to hear noise of music and people until 1:00AM (Flotsam & Jetsam hosts weekend party at the kitchen bar). This is open to all; you can also join even if you are not staying in the hostel. There’s also a big chance to meet celebrities here! (We saw Bella Padilla, Dani Barretto and Axel Torres)

How to get there –

We booked an online ticket via Partas Bus website.

  • Destination: Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
  • Origin: Pasay or Cubao
  • Main Drop Off Point: San Juan, La Union

Fare from Pasay is P541.00; Cubao P524.00.

You can also choose your preferred departure time and seat number (reserved seating).

Note: Online booking service charge is P52.40.

We departed at 11:00PM on a Friday night and reached the hostel at around 4:00AM (5 travel hours only since there was no traffic). They were fully booked that time and we had no choice but to rent a tent for P400.00 – half day (placed in the rooftop, includes sleeping supplies, bath towel, mini electric fan and free breakfast).

What to do –

Flotsam & Jetsam offers a trip to Tangadan Falls for P800 per person. This includes tricycle fare from the hostel to the falls and vice versa; your driver will serve as your tour guide as well.

Free water bottle when you avail their Tangadan Falls trip. Refill it with free water on the lobby; you will definitely need it!

Breakfast time is 7:00AM-10:00AM; we were fetched by the designated driver/tour guide at around 8:00AM. Travel time is 30-45 minutes and trekking time is 1-1.5 hours

It was a worth it journey! You can enjoy bamboo rafting and shower your head and body as the water falls; and you may want to try a 15ft. cliff diving experience at the top other side of Tangadan Falls. Life vest is available for P50.00 only.

There are also sari-sari stores on the way where you can buy foods and drinks.

Flotsam & Jetsam is a beachfront hostel so you don’t have to worry how and when to get wet anytime. Available activities are surfing, paddle boarding and kayaking.

There were only little waves when we got there; sadly that we can’t even do surfing. But, we still enjoyed our stay and will surely come back to this place!
